Peanut Butter Avocado Brownies

June 22, 2014 By Jelli 30 Comments

Lusciously rich, chip-laden fudge brownies with a savory swirl of peanut butter for a fraction of the calories. Sink your teeth into these peanut butter avocado brownies and be transported into a world where chocolate fantasies really do come true!peanut butter brownies-8You guys, I seriously cannot tell you how flipping delicious these skinny peanut butter avocado brownies are! You’ve got no idea how long this recipe has been sitting in my “drafts” folder anxiously awaiting it’s debut.peanut butter avocado browniesWanna know why it took me ages to get this chocoholic peanut butter love recipe to ya?

No words. That’s right, I was stuck. I had no words to describe how lush, rich, and day-making these brownies are. Your friends will never suspect these are low-fat, and thankfully your waistline will never give away just how many you ate.

All it takes is four ingredients, one bowl, and a wooden spoon to achieve peanut butter avocado brownie perfection! {tweet this}

Who’s with me?peanut butter brownies-7Just look at these. See how dark and gorgeous that chocolate color is? Makes me dream of swimming in ganache. Yeah, I’d do that. Of course, just like the traditional avocado brownies recipe I shared with you, these peanut butter brownies are also made with the best brownie mix on the planet. It has three kinds of chocolate chips. I rest my case.

Avocado brownies are simply just brownies made using the natural fats (and vitamins!) of avocados instead of the traditional vegetable oil and eggs. Check out how many calories you’ll save just from using avocados in place of the classic brownie box ingredients.Avocado brownies calorie countEver wondered how to get that pretty peanut butter swirl on top of your brownies? All you’ve got to do is drop spoonfuls of peanut butter (I used creamy) on top of the raw batter and take a sharp knife through the globs in long, slow strokes. It’s so easy but really adds to the visual appeal of this homemade brownie recipe-  and makes them even easier to photograph! As they say, you eat with your eyes first!peanut butter avocado brownies-7Since I’ve baked these brownies often, I’ll offer you some insider tips to getting the best avocado brownies from a boxed mix.

  • Puree the avocado until it’s silky smooth. Press it through a sieve or use a food mill or baby food grinder to get it creamy smooth.
  • Use the best brownie mix. If you want stellar brownies that WOW your friends, be sure to invest in the highest quality brownie mix for this recipe.
  • Bake them longer. Bake these brownies just a smidge more than classic brownies from scratch, about 3-5 minutes longer than the box states.peanut butter brownies

Serves: 12
Ingredients
  • 1 box brownie mix (for 9x9" batch)
  • ⅔ cup pureed avocado
  • ⅓ cup water
  • ½ cup peanut butter
Instructions
  1. Butter a 9x9" baking dish and preheat oven according to the brownie mix box instructions.
  2. Add brownie mix, pureed avocado, and water to a large bowl and stir to combine. Pour into greased baking dish.
  3. Dollop spoonfuls of peanut butter on top of brownie batter and use a sharp knife to pull through the batter to marble it.
  4. Bake according to brownie mix instructions. If a toothpick inserted comes out with raw batter, continue cooking 5 minutes or until it removes clean.
  5. Cool completely and slice brownies with a plastic knife for best results.
  6. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days in the refrigerator.

Brownies are always a crowd-pleaser. Just imagine how stunned your guests will be when you tell them you (kind hostess, you!) made their droolworthy peanut butter brownies using fruit. They’ll pat you on the back, rave about your brownies to the entire office, and definitely beg you to make them again and again.peanut butter avocado brownies

Thanks for the kind words, Krista! You really do need to get ‘er done, as they say 😉 I took these brownies to a get-together and everyone was shocked to find out they had avocado in them. Gooey, chewy, and perfectly satisfying with a cold glass of milk. Hope you have a great week!

Thanks, Jennifer! I love brownies too much to try mutilating the recipe to make them 100% healthy, but with avocado you’d never guess it’s even in there- a wonderful substitute. Hope you give them a try soon.

Um, I pretty much want to dive head first into this gorgeous mess of brownies! I love that you use avocado to make it creamy (but healthy). I have yet to try chocolate + avocado but since I love both with great passion, I know I will love them together 🙂

Let’s both dive in, Amy! These brownies are gorgeous and unforgettable. I know you mentioned a love for avocado, but you won’t notice it’s flavor in these brownies. Maybe if you added a chocolate avocado mousse frosting… hey, there’s an idea! Thank you for stopping by today. Hope to see you again soon.
