Summertime is peak season for play clothes, flip flops, sunscreen, and all kinds of outdoor activities for kids. Making bubbles at home is cheap, easy, and tons of fun for all ages. Bubbles are a great way to entertain a whole rally of children at barbecues and birthday parties too! Today we’re learning tips for how to make bubbles that go the extra mile and how to make bubble solutions that produce big long-lasting bubbles.
Surefire Tips to Create Giant Bubbles
Check your forecast
The weather plays a big role in creating big bubbles. Moist air with a gentle breeze is ideal. The higher the humidity, the better. Try making bubbles in the morning when the dew is still on the grass, during mist or fog, or at dusk.
Sleep on it
Maximize the size and longevity of your bubbles, mix up the bubble solution and let it sit overnight before you use it. Bubble solutions get better with time.
Skim it
Foam is the enemy of successful bubbles. Use a large spoon to skim the foam off of your bubble solution as you’re using it.
Quality Counts
Use the best soap available to make top-notch soar-to-the-top-floor bubbles. David Stein, author of How to Make Monstrous, Huge, Unbelievably Big Bubbles recommends Joy dish soap. Dawn rated second, followed by Ivory. In European markets, he recommends Fairy wash up liquid and in Australia Morning Fresh. We’ve got his book and love the included giant “bubble thing.”

This is such a fun post! Koolaid bubbles? Jello bubbles? Can’t wait to try those! 🙂 Pinned & sharing!
Jelli says
Thanks, Carrie! I know, I think I’d be crazy about those yummy smelling Kool-Aid bubbles. I can’t wait to try a bunch of these myself. My kids love bubbles!! In fact a couple of weeks ago a friend whipped out a bottle of bubbles when our babies were getting antsy in the nursery. It was a genius move that kept them enthralled until the sermon was over and later inspired this bubble series.

Ok. You are going to laugh. But it was only very recently that I figure out that foam =bad in bubbles. These are awesome tips and I’m def going to make my one year old more bubbles!

Madaline, I never knew that until recently either. I had such a hard time trying to figure out why my two year-old’s recycled wedding bubbles container just would NOT work when I refilled it. Turns out I wasn’t using the right formula and all we were getting was foam. So glad you stopped by today! Hope to see you around again soon.
