Have you ever checked the ingredient label of your favorite night cream? A couple of years ago I started making my own natural homemade lotions and face creams. I wanted to know exactly what was in the products I was smoothing onto my skin, especially during pregnancy. Since my recipe for homemade olive oil night cream has become a very popular post, it seemed time to give it an ahem– face lift!
Why make homemade night cream?
If you’re wondering why anyone would take the time to create homemade skin products, you’re not alone. Yes, it requires an initial investment in the basics (coconut oil, beeswax, cocoa butter, shea butter, etc.) but the resulting products smell incredible, moisturize more effectively, and give you the peace of mind knowing you’re slathering only the best quality organic products onto your family’s skin. Yes, your kids could even use this– think dry knees, elbows, and winter-burned hands.
Plus, most of my homemade lotion recipes and DIY body butters can be made in less than five minutes. Strapped for time but curious to try homemade night cream? Just send me a line and I’d be happy to ship out a jar of DIY night cream straight from my kitchen to your doorstep.
This updated version of homemade face moisturizer is a DIY night cream. It’s goes on smoothly, is gentle on sensitive skin and works even for combination skin without causing breakouts. Because it is a little greasy upon application, it’s best suited as a night cream. All six ingredients are natural time-honored beauty staples, including the star ingredient- frankincense essential oil.
Frankie, it’s your time to shine!
Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) oil is known to maintain radiant skin. It is used in essential oil skin healing blends and creams because it aids in preventing and healing scars and even stretch marks. At $85 per bottle, it’s not cheap, but one bottle goes a long way. You can use it for herbal face oil, cuts and scrapes roller bottles for the kiddos, and as a luxurious addition to your bath. Here’s where I buy my essential oils.
Give the gift of DIY Night Cream!
Pick up a pretty little jar for your homemade night cream or store it in a small baby food jar. Decorate the lid with a pretty piece of fabric and a ribbon and it’s fancy enough for gifting! Here’s a great Pin board with more gorgeous presentation ideas than you could possibly need (unless you’re gifting this to every single nurse in your favorite hospital.)

Hello Jelli,
I came across your blog while searching for natural diy skincare. The natural night cream sounds pretty good to me. is this particular one for all skin types and agee. Im in my mid 30s and have normal to dry skin.
Also i feel a little hesitant to invest in all the ingrediants without giving it a try, is there a way you could send me a sample to try. would really appreciate.

Hi there, Puneet. It does indeed sound like an investment, but you’d be surprised at how small quantities you can purchase of each item. Due to international shipping costs, at this time samples are not available.

What’s the shelf life??

I’ve had my jar for about 2 years (mostly using it as eye cream) and even in our tropical weather it has held up well. I will say that when it’s not properly capped, ants like to get inside, so keep it well sealed. 🙂
