Natural Alternatives to Makeup Remover

March 28, 2014 By Jelli 11 Comments

If you’re squeamish about using chemicals on your face or have sensitive skin, you’re probably on the market for natural makeup removers. Bottled solutions can be pretty expensive, so you’ll be happy to know that there are some effective and inexpensive natural makeup removers probably already hanging out at your house.Natural Makeup Removers- makeup glides off with these products you've already got on hand! #skincare #naturalbeauty #makeup from JellibeanJournals.com Let me introduce you to four makeup removers that I have used over the last year. Each of these is an excellent solution to take off even the toughest waterproof mascaras and eyeliners and they’re gentle on your skin too. No more tugging at that thin, delicate skin around your eyes.

ONE: Olive Oil

My mother-in-law introduced me to this frugal makeup remover and I love it! She keeps a special bottle by the bathroom sink strictly for makeup removal. Simply pour a drop or two of olive oil onto your finger, a cotton swab, or soft cloth and swipe away makeup. I’ve also tried successfully with this coconut oil.

Make your own natural homemade night cream (it only takes a few minutes!) and dab onto the areas you where you want to remove makeup. Use a gentle cloth or cotton ball to glide away makeup. Love simple DIYs that do double duty!

Chances are, if you’re into organic/natural beauty products you’ve already got a stick of natural lip balm waiting to show off it’s incredible ability to remove eye makeup. Smooth natural lip balm over the eye area (or dab it onto your finger and apply) and swipe makeup away with a clean cloth. Voila!

FOUR: Oil Cleansing Method

The oil cleansing method requires no extra steps to rid your face of makeup. Just using this method alone will remove all makeup from your face without needing any extra products. When I oil cleanse, I love getting my face cleansed and moisturized in one easy step. Here’s an insightful article to get started with oil cleansing.

There you have it, four simple and natural alternatives to makeup remover. I’m sure you’ve got even more solutions out there for me. Go ahead and share in the comments and leave a link too! We’re all learning to live healthier lives together.

Oil cleansing is definitely something I had to warm up to. I mean, how can oil clean your skin, right? Once I did a little research, including the article I linked to here in the post, I decided it was worth a try and found that I really enjoyed it. Hope you find time to learn more about it too, Jennifer. Thank you for visiting today.

Thanks for these tips! I am allergic to makeup removers so I need something all-natural. I might try either olive oil or coconut oil.

Jenna, I’m so glad you found something that might work for your skin. I’m not necessarily allergic to makeup removers but have noticed that they often burn my eyes, even “fancy” brands like Clinique. Definitely give the oils a try and let me know what you think! Thanks so much for visiting this weekend.

Found you over at The Block Party Link Party. Love this post. I have never thought to use my natural lip balm as a makeup remover. That says genius to me 🙂 If you have a moment it would be awesome if you would share this on my Monday Morning MakeUp Madness Party. My readers would love some of these tips too. Thank you so much

Thanks, Kat! I actually just did this again last night. It’s easier to pop the cap off the lip balm than to go through the steps with another bottle of oil. Hope you try it out soon. Glad to meet you this morning.

Olive Oil has always been an easy way I get make-up off!
Then I microwave honey for 10 seconds and use it as a mask on my face.
After washing off, your skin is soooo smooth!
Thanks a ton for sharing. Never knew about the lip balm trick. c:

Mmm! I love using honey as a facial mask too, Harlynn. It’s been a long time since I’ve set time aside to do that but boy is it nice! Thanks for reminding me and thank you even more for stopping by my little ole place on the net today. Have a beautiful week.

I love cleansing with oil! Takes away the harsh scrubbing! I exfoliate with baking soda a couple times a week and use vegetable glycerin with lavender as a moisturizer nightly. It has truly improved my skin!

Lori, I like using baking soda as an exfoliator too. It’s just so easy since it’s always stashed in my pantry and it works really well. I’ve never heard of using vegetable glycerin and lavender as a moisturizer, but when I finish my current jar of homemade night cream I’d love to try it! Do you use lavender oil or something else to add the lavender to the glycerin?
