Nothing beats gooey, buttery sprinkle Rice Krispy treats, especially since they literally take less than 10 minutes from start to finish. And I can’t wait to share my insider secret for getting those bright, festive sprinkles to look perfect every single time!
Curbing a childlike craving for Rice Krispy treats is one of my favorite ways to indulge. Maybe it’s because they’re super simple to make, or because there’s only one pot wash afterward, but when Rice Krispies are available at our local grocer, I rarely deny myself the pleasure.
A quick way to take an ordinary Rice Krispy treat recipe to Rice Krispy treat GOLD status is to add sprinkles. Liberally. The brighter the color, the better! It’s not as simple as it looks though. If you try shaking a jar of colorful candy sprinkles over freshly made Rice Krispy Treats, the result looks great…until you pick up a bar and all the sprinkles fall off. If you try pressing the sprinkles into the bar you wind up with sticky fingers coated in sprinkles and a lot of time lost.
The best way to make sprinkle Rice Krispy treats is to add the sprinkles to the bottom of the pan before you pour in the gooey, melty yummy Rice Krispy treat mixture.
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 10 oz. Kraft Jet Puffed Marshmallows (about 40)
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- pinch salt
- 3 tablespoons sprinkles
- Prepare a 13x9" baking dish by greasing it with butter and scattering the sprinkles evenly inside.
- Melt butter in a large pot over medium heat. Allow it to brown just a bit and then add marshmallows and a pinch of salt. Stir until melted and add vanilla. Pour in cereal and quickly stir to combine. Scrape out into prepared baking dish and allow to cool before cutting.
