Last week, we talked about how to use cloth baby wipes. As promised, today I’m sharing with you a natural three-ingredient cloth baby wipe solution that we use on our baby.
In general, I use plain tap water on cloth wipes at diaper changes, but when Summer Elizabeth has a rash, I mix up this soothing natural wipe solution.
3-Ingredient Natural Cloth Baby Wipe Solution
- 1 c. water, filtered if possible
- 2 T. witch hazel, a natural soothing anti-inflammatory astringent
- 1-2 drops lavender or tea tree oil, as a natural antibacterial agent
Mix together in a squirt or spray bottle and use at every diaper change with cloth wipes until redness dissipates.
Tell me: What natural skincare remedies do you use with your little ones?

I use a very similar wipe solution for my cloth wipes! I’ll have to add some witch hazel for sure. 😉
I already follow Marni via FB and LOVE her products. Haven’t tried her wipes yet so fingers crossed!!!

I liked both you and Rebourne on FB – user name Elle Tucker.
Thanks, Elle! Good luck.
Just found your blog. I love this DIY solution. I’m going to try it along with your natural diaper rash treatment. My poor guys has a horrible diaper rash right now.
Hope it works for you, Tracy! They both work well for us, as long as the diaper rash isn’t a fungal rash. In that case, it seems like the only cure is over-the-counter fungal creams. Ick.
Liked! We love cloth diapering at our house – just posted about it this week 🙂 http://oneorganicmama.blogspot.com/2013/01/a-fake-crunchy-and-cloth-diapers.html

I love 3-ingredient recipes, whether it be for quick and easy meals or natural products to use around the home. Thank you for this recipe!
Great post! I don’t have any little ones right now but I’ll have to remember this once I do. I’m wanting to do a lot of homemade things and cloth diapering, so this sounds right up my alley.
well if i ever get married and have a baby, i know where i’m comin to for all my tips 😀
What a great recipe! I think I am going to try this for my little one. I like the idea of the drops of lavender or tea tree!
Cathy
If you try it, please stop back and let me know what you think, Cathy! These wipes are really soothing and so much cheaper than buying organic baby butt sprays and the like (though there’s definitely a time and place for it.) Hope you love them.
I made my own wipes with paper towels. I just can’t remember what the ingredients were…it was 23 years ago when my youngest was born. Neither of my girls had skin issues but I can see why the witch hazel would be god.
Pamela, I’ve made my own cleaning wipes with paper towels, but never tried it with baby wipes since we’ve always used cloth. Sounds like a great idea for travel though!
If we ever have another baby, I’ll have to try this. 🙂
This would have been nice to have when my children were little and had rashes.
I’ve used witch hazel before, really liked it. We recently switched to coconut oil for those little rashes that pop up on littles. And I l.ove it!
Marissa
Marissa, I love using coconut oil too. It’s the only diaper “cream” we use and it’s been totally effective for both my kids though I definitely needed it more with my daughter. I guess she had super sensitive skin. Thanks for the reminder. I need to stock up on coconut oil for when this next baby comes!
This is awesome!!
Such a cute picture! We have friends who use cloth diapers and love them! Will have to tell them about this natural solution. Great content as always Jelli!
Thanks for the share, Jonathan! Glad to hear you know some cloth diapering parents. It seems like it’s growing a little in popularity in the states- certainly is here in Costa Rica. Have a great week.
