Dress Tailoring for the Everyday Woman

July 25, 2014 By Jelli 9 Comments

When it comes to style, I’m no fashionista. I like to look good, but I usually opt for stylish AND comfortable over seasonal trends. I’m also a big fan of dresses. You may remember the awesome tutorial I shared about wearing a maxi dress short.dress-tailoring-2There’s just something about wearing a dress that makes me feel more feminine and ladylike. Blame it on 1950s sitcoms or I Love Lucy reruns, but I love ’em!

This watermelon colored dress from eShakti is my favorite. (Here’s an updated style.) It’s form fitting at the top to accentuate the waist, not too short, not too long, and even has pockets at the hip.

Wonder how it fits so well? It’s all about eShakti’s custom tailoring.

You’d expect to pay hundreds for a custom-made dress and eShakti provides custom tailoring for the everyday woman, not a Kardashian. No high prices, no fittings, just quick measurements you take and enter in upon purchase. I will definitely be ordering from them again!dress-tailoring

Want a pricess neckline? You got it!

Add sleeves? Check!

Two inches shorter? As you wish!tailored-dressI actually received this dress when I was about 3 months pregnant with my son and by the time it arrived, my body had already gone into pregnancy mode, so it didn’t fit. Not until recently, about a year and a half later, can I now show off my bright, colorful pink dress that I wore for the 1st time to my brother-in-law’s wedding where my little girl was the flower girl and we gobbled up blue-frosted chocolate cupcakes.

As for this dress in particular, I love that it’s got pockets. If we’re out and my toddler hands me a momento she’s found, or a hair tie she’s sick of wearing, I can stash it. On the other hand, one thing I dislike about this dress is that the fabric had some pretty macho armpit stains after I wore it. I use homemade deodorant, so I can’t blame it on antiperspirants. With a little extra stain treatment in the laundry I was able to remove 90% of it and hopefully next wash it will all come out.

For my next purchase, this pretty orange stretch poplin dress caught my eye. The body-skimming silhouette is perfect for date night and the color is fresh and summery. Don’t you just love it? Wanna know a little (awesome!) secret? It even has bra strap keeps so you never have straps peeking out. Way to go, eShakti designers!

*I was in no way compensated for this post, just LOVED the dress they sent for review and was excited to share.

Leslie, thanks so much! I absolutely love that color and the pretty yet modest design. My daughter, yep, she’s a cupcake lover. We kept her away from sweets until her 2nd birthday, so I guess she has lots of catching up to do 😉 Hope you have a beautiful weekend too!

Oooooo…. love the dress and the color! 🙂 I have one of their dresses that I bought from an online consignment shop and I love it! I didn’t know that they made all those custom alterations though! How cool.

Opting for stylish and comfortable over seasonal trends is a nice way to go about it and likely ensures that you wear the items you purchase. It’s good to hear that eShakti’s tailoring worked so well for you.

You really can’t go wrong when a dress has pockets – that’s such a rare occurrence for some reason! Finding a tailor that is both inexpensive and provides quality alterations is also no easy feat, but I’m glad to see that you found one!
