If you want readers to share your posts, make it easy for them. Gain brand recognition and increase your Twitter following by tagging your Twitter handle in Shareaholic. Great news for all bloggers, this plugin is available on Blogger too!
Most of us use social sharing buttons above or below our post content to help readers share our content. If you’ve already using a sharing plugin like Shareaholic, that’s great. Now, let’s take it one step further to really drive Twitter followers your way. Let me show you how to tag your own Twitter handle in Shareaholic and brand your tweets.
I learned how to drive traffic to my Twitter account like a pro. {Tweet this!}
My friend Gabby at MamaGab uses branded tweets just like what we’ll be creating today.
Twitter is a huge social media hub that bloggers can influence big time. We can engage readers, start conversations, and share links to great content on Twitter. The question is, do all the “tweeps” know where your great content is coming from? Do you know which of your posts receive the most Twitter love? Let’s get to it and tag ourselves in Shareaholic so that millions of Twitter users can recognize just how fab your website is and so that you can find out which posts are audience faves. If you’re in a rut coming up with new posts to share, get your hands on this course stat. It’ll load you up with more blogging ideas than you can jam-pack into your editorial calendar.
Step One: Install Shareaholic
Head to the Shareaholic plugin page and follow the instructions to install Shareaholic.
Step Two: Set up Shareaholic
Open Shareaholic plugin by clicking the link in your dashboard.
Determine which icons and related content to showcase with your blog posts. This is what my setup looks like.
Step Three: Tag Yourself- Add a Twitter Handle
Go to your Shareaholic general dashboard that looks like this. Click “Edit General Website Settings.” Scroll down until you see “Share Buttons General Settings.”
Change the default “via @shareaholic” to your own brand. In my case it reads “via @jellibeanj_blog.” Go ahead and follow me on Twitter now. I’ll wait here.
There are a few more branding tweaks you can add to the tweets that go out from your site on Shareaholic. Look at the image above and then read below to see how each piece of the tweet puzzle functions.
${title} – this is where the post title will be inserted into the tweet. Move it around at will.
${link} – this adds the post link. Again, you can move it to your desired location within the tweet.
@username – here’s where we’re adding our Twitter handle to brand every tweet.
#hashtag – add hashtags within tweets to customize every mention going out from your site on Shareaholic.
Once you’ve branded your tweets your followers will recognize your content shared across Twitter. Every time your posts are shared with your Twitter handle attached you are driving attention to your Twitter account and headed toward more follows. Now that you’ve branded your tweets in Shareaholic, you’re off to a great start. Keep that great content coming!

Yay! I’m so happy you found this information helpful, Sandra. I’ve seen so many bloggers- even BIG bloggers neglect this step and it really is sad because I know that they could have really increased their Twitter engagement if they’d just taken the time to brand their tweets. Happy blogging and hope to see you around again soon.

Great tips:) Thanks for sharing. #SITSBlogging

Thank you for stopping by today, Jeanette! Hope to see you around again soon.

I wish that blogger had some great plug-ins like this! It’s very easy to use, but you need to be a web designer to create any customizations.
Jelli says
I know what you mean, Jenna. Before I moved to WordPress last year I felt so stuck in Blogger as I saw the awesome things that people could do and customize in WordPress so easily. If you’re serious about growing your blog, I couldn’t recommend starting off with Genesis from the get-go. Thank you for stopping by!
Janice says
So much great info here! Still overwhelmed by social media. At this point, I’m focusing on Pinterest, so I’ll read your posts on that topic. Thanks! #SITSblogging
Jelli says
Pinterest is definitely a #1 traffic driver. I’d actually tell you to read those articles first if you’ve got plans to rock the social media world anytime soon. Most bloggers say it’s their number one traffic source and it definitely is for me! Have a great week, Janice, and thank you for stopping by.
Jenna @ A Savory Feast says
This is really helpful! I am going to have to install this plugin.
Jelli says
Definitely a winner, I’d say. Since the more plugins you’ve got on your site, the slower your site speed, Shareaholic is great because it puts out related content AND share buttons, saving you from having to find 2 plugins to do each piece. Thank you for visiting, Jenna. Hope to see you around again soon!

This article was great. So are the other ones on here. Following you now!

Love this article. Such a nice walk through! Thank you!

Happy to help, Jennifer. Hope your tweets really start driving traffic your way on an ever bigger scale now! Thank you so much for stopping by.
Jen says
Excited to try this out! I use blogger but was able to use the Shareaholic plug in really easily. It rocks!! So cute, too! Now that I’ve learned a new trick, I can’t wait to try it out 🙂 Thanks for sharing!
Jelli says
It is cute, right? That’s one of the first things that attracted me to it. I also love that one plugin does related content AND share icons. Thanks so much for stopping by, Jen!
Jen says
I just moved to WP. I’m still learning the ropes and figuring out what plugins I need. This post is great! I’ll have to put it into action asap!
Jelli says
Happy to help, Jen! Another plugin I’d definitely recommend is ReplyMe. It sends your readers an email whenever you respond to their comments. (Like the one you’ll get as soon as I hit “enter.”) Readers only get YOUR responses, not every single comment that other people place on that same post- which I personally get sick of. If you’d like more plugin advice, check this out. Super helpful! My last and most important recommendation is to get started with Genesis. Best move you’ll ever make…after switching to WP 🙂
Jamee @ A New Kind of Normal says
I knew how to change my twitter handle using that plugin but I never considered adding hash tags or rearranging the structure of the tweet! Great tips! Definitely pinning this!
Stopping by from SITS!
Jelli says
Happy you found something new that will help to rock your tweets. Have a great week, Jamee.
Jhanis says
I’ve been wondering why some blogs using shareaholics do not automatically populate their handles! Great tutorial and I am definitely pinning this!
Dropping by from SITS, have a great day!
Jelli says
Yes, I don’t get it either. I spend way too much time scrolling up blog sidebars to attach the author’s Twitter handle to their posts, so it would be incredibly helpful if everyone just took a second to brand their tweets. Thank you for visiting today.
Gabrielle says
Thanks for sharing that. I’m learning from the best! 😉 Thanks for all of your awesome twitter tips!
Jenniemarie @ Another Housewife says
I have the basics set up right now. I’ve been wondering how to do this but haven’t had the time to figure it out. Love when something is broken down so I can follow step by step instructions.
Stopping by from the SITS Challenge
Jelli says
So happy to help. I had to google all over the place to figure this out when I first started using Shareaholic, so I figured it would be helpful to write it out for others too. Thank you for visiting, Jennie!
Jennifer @Making Our Life Matter says
I just started using Shareaholic, so this is great information. I finally figured out how to change the generic settings, he he. I love your suggestions for plug-ins. Off to check them out!
Stopping in from SITS!
Jelli says
That’s great feedback, Jennifer. I hope you find the info as helpful as I did. Thank you so much for visiting.
Jenn says
Awesome tutorial! I hope a lot of people see this and use it. I always like to include the author’s handle when tweeting their post and it’s so much easier when it’s already included in the tweet! I’ll be sharing this all over. You should submit this post to SITS! 🙂
Jelli says
Thanks, Jenn. I do that same thing scrolling up and down and all around people’s sites to find their Twitter handle to add to tweets. I wrote this post to help others, but it also helps people like us who are trying to really connect those authors with their content. Thanks a million for sharing! I’ve submitted to Sits in the past and never heard back, but I’ll give it a go. Thank you for the encouragement.
K. Elizabeth @ YUMMommy says
I need to work on branding my tweets a little bit better. I wish this Shareaholic app was available for Blogger as well.
Jelli says
Great news for you, Shareaholic bookmarks ARE available on Blogger! Here’s the tutorial for installing them straight from Shareaholic’s site. Hope this helps you tons! Thanks so much for visiting.

I’ve never used this before but will have to check it out. This is a great tutorial if I do decide to use this!
Jelli says
Thank you, Jessica. Shareaholic is great, and I love that you have the opportunity to choose between a few different sets of icons to match your site and personality best. Definitely give it a try and see what you think!
Jasey says
What a great post, I’ve pinned for future reference! I think I’ve found a new blog to follow, those cookies looked killer!
Jelli says
Yay, I’m so glad you like my site. The cookies are phenomenal. I’ve made them about 3 times in the past 2 weeks. Hope to see you around again soon. Thank you, Jasey for pinning and sharing. I really appreciate it.
jennifer says
Ooh.. it drives me nuts when people don’t have a “Tweet” option! Excellent tips, lady! 🙂
Jelli says
Thank you so much, Jennifer. You’re right, constructing the tweet from scratch is so much more time consuming. Glad you stopped by today.
Brynne@TheGatheredHome says
Okay, I really need to do this!! Like, right now! Thanks Jelli 🙂 Pinning!
Jelli says
Hope it works great for you, Brynne! It’s very VERY helpful for readers who want to be sure you see their tweets go out. Have a super week.

Becky, I’m sure you’ll be a pro with WP before you know it. There’s definitely a learning curve, but if you stick with it and Google enough, you’ll figure it out. Hope you find time to brand your tweets. If you have any questions with your blog or blog design, send me a line and I’d be happy to look at it.
Jodee Weiland says
This post was very helpful. I’ve wondered about shareaholic. Right now I’m just trying to get the related posts to work. I shut down my other related posts, so I now have none on the page, but I’ll give it al little time. Other than that it’s all good. Thanks for sharing!

Great tips! I will have to look into this for sure…and try to figure out how to make it work (not always good and some of this techno stuff LOL) Hi from Sharefest
Bev says
This was super helpful, thanks! I have been using Shareaholic for awhile and didn’t realize I could change it so that it says via my twitter handle. Just changed it 🙂 Stopping by from #SITSSharefet

Lindsay @ The Lean Green Bean says
great tutorial! i hope everyone reads it. Makes it so much easier to share people’s content!
Jelli says
It certainly does make it easier, doesn’t it, Lindsay! I commented on tons of blogs this week and can honestly say that it’s exhausting and frustrating trying to manually tag all those authors in tweets. Thanks for stopping by and for the encouragement.
Jelli says
You’re right, it makes it SO much easier to share others’ content when the tweets are branded. Thank you so much, Lindsay, for stopping by this weekend.
Carrie This Home says
Great tips! I don’t know a whole lot about Twitter so this was helpful for me. I’m pinning this to share with my readers!
Jelli says
Thank you so much, Carrie! Twitter just so happens to be my favorite outlet for sharing content, so it helps everyone if we have our Shareaholic tweets branded. I appreciate you sharing the tips. Thanks a bunch!
Eva Marie Taylor says
Over from SITS! 🙂 Seems like an awesome tool. I feel like there are so many things I need to be doing for my blog, but I think I need to make installing Shareaholic a priority!
Jelli says
It’s definitely beneficial to have some kind of social sharing plugin on your site, whether Shareaholic, DiggDigg, Linkwithin… It just makes it so easy and quick for readers to share your content. We all know that time is of the essence, so it just makes sense to have the sharing icons there for any easy click-and-share. Thanks so much for stopping by!
Michelle @ A Dish of Daily Life says
Very helpful info. Pinning it because I need to dive into this. My tweets do show up with my handle but I’d like to add hashtags, etc so I need to take a look at this! Visiting from the Link party Palooza today.
Jelli says
You’re one step ahead of most bloggers, Michelle, since you’ve already optimized your tweets with a Twitter handle. Here’s hoping you find time this weekend to primp them even further. Thanks so much for stopping by.
Christine says
Yay! I’ve wondered with plugin that was…still getting a handle on the social media thing, but I’ll definitely keep following you (that and I love finding other expats/multicultural families:)!
