How to Swaddle a Newborn in a Swaddle Wrap

September 18, 2013 By Jelli 14 Comments

Did you receive any swaddle wraps at your baby shower? Chances are, you did. Swaddle wrap blankets are wonderful for calming babies by providing them a warm tight hug-like environment similar to their experience inside the womb.

fit newborn in swaddle wrapIf you’re yearning to get your teensy tiny newborn swaddled up tight and cozy inside that swaddle wrap just the way he likes, you might be a little disappointed to find that they are often too big to tightly cuddle a newborn. Never fear, I’m here to show you exactly how to make that swaddle wrap fit your newborn like a glove in two steps.

Step one: Wrap your baby up tight in a cotton receiving blanket.

Step two: Insert the blanket swaddled newborn into the swaddle wrap and secure. Finito!

I swear by swaddling. It always made our babies so calm and relaxed. I kind of miss it. Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could swaddle our toddlers when they get crabby? LOL.

It would be wonderful to swaddle my little girl sometimes…like now, for instance, as she’s lying in bed shrieking in her crib with at least 10 minutes of required napping still to go.

This is so helpful! I got one of those swaddle blankets and could never get my baby to stay inside. Using a receiving blanket with it is genius! Thank you!

So glad to help! I wish I’d figured this out with my first child too. Just kind of occurred to me the other day and it works like a charm!

Oh yes, the double wrap. It works like a charm. My son is 3 months now and he refuses to be swaddled anymore but when he use to let us, that technique worked really well.

Thanks for stopping by, Lisa. I totally wish I’d have known about this technique with my first child. The weather was a wee bit cooler when she was a newborn, and we layered her up in pjs, but she loved swaddling and I know this would’ve worked really well.

Vivian, we do love our swaddle blankets! In fact, I’ve got three kids now and our original swaddler pictured in this post is still in the rotation of blankets I use all the time.
