I never want to forget how you are right now. Your wee small voice, the way you call out to me in the morning when you wake up, bright eyed out of bed, how you look at me with mischief in your eyes and say “no” when you’ve done something naughty, and how big both your eyes & smile get when you hear the gate opening for daddy’s arrival.I hope I’ll always remember how little you are, how soft your skin, how round and pretty your tummy, and how you love to show it off to everyone. I never want to forget how you brush your hair and teeth like a big girl, how you want to do everything I do, including apply deodorant and scramble eggs.
I love your big brown eyes and the way your dark lashes frame them so innocently, how you lift your arms high asking me to hold you, the way you listen intently as Daddy reads you the Bible before bedtime, and those sweet, sweet cuddles I get as I tuck you in for night night. You want to wear my shoes now. You want to carry grocery sacks and diaper bags. You love chasing big girls at the playground and unclipping laundry from the line. Please slow down. Your time will come.
I love you small.

Thanks, Alana. I’m slowly learning that though I’d love to keep them little, that I will enjoy every single chapter of their lives. It’s such a privilege being a mom!
