MMM: Encourage Dad with a Playtime Jar

June 17, 2012 By Jelli 15 Comments

Welcome to {Monday Mom Musings} link-up! I’m so excited you came to join the fun. Moms supporting moms is what Monday Mom Musings is all about.

Wishing your family a  happy Father’s Day today! Posting a day early this week because we’ll be in the mountains through Monday without internet access.

playtime jar

In honor of encouraging all those dedicated dads out there, today I’m sharing with you a fun anytime gift for the father (of littles) in your life, the Playtime Jar.

My man sometimes hits a roadblock when it comes to new, original play ideas for daddy time with our daughter. He’s all about spending time with her. He’s her biggest fan. But sometimes dads need a little inspiration to get out of a playtime rut. As mamas, we can take this opportunity to help dad breathe new life into bonding time with a Playtime Jar. Playtime Activity Jar

What is it? Essentially, a Playtime Jar is a collection of creative, unique playtime activities that dads and children will both enjoy doing together.

What you’ll need:

  • 1 medium-sized jar
  • paper
  • pen
  • scissors
  • photos
  • double-sided scrapbooking tape
  • unique & entertaining playtime activity ideas
  • Crafty supplies to decorate: ribbons, printed papers, paint, etc.

    Instructions:

    1. Wash and clean out your jar. Use cooking oil to remove any sticky label residue if necessary. You want the jar squeaky clean so your photos show through.
    2. Scribble down  your ingenious playtime activity ideas in list form on the sheets of paper, leaving enough space to cut them apart. Use scissors to cut out the slips of paper.
    3. Trim photos to fit inside the jar and press them against the edges of the jar to hold in place. You can use double-sided transparent tape here, if needed.
    4. Fill the jar with the activity slips.
    5. Decorate to your heart’s content. Presto! Wrap it up and give your thoughtful playtime activities jar to your baby-daddy.

What activities would you include in YOUR playtime jar?

Now it’s your turn! Please join me and link up your {Monday Mom Musings}; anecdotes, game & activity ideas, gems of wisdom, crafts, recent triumphs, or anything else that you’ve learned or would like to share with us this week about parenting.

Please do! You realize you can link up any post from your blog that deals with parenting, right? You don’t need to write a post especially for the linky, so it’s really just a couple steps to link-up. Thanks for visiting.

I love this but showing how to work light switches is something I never want my kids to learn until age seven or so. Bahahaha! JUST KIDDING! We have a light switch on our pony wall at home….the builder was obviously not a parent. LOL! Love your blog!

Since our baby won’t be able to reach the switches for quite awhile, she’ll only get that playtime when we hold her, so we control how crazy disco-like it gets. Thanks for visiting!
