Is Non-toxic Nail Polish For You?

September 2, 2013 By Jelli 3 Comments

Last month I gave away all my nail polish. Okay, so I only had 5 bottles. I decided to do away with chemical-laden polishes, opting instead for the 4-sided nail buffer that’s been a staple in my makeup bag since high school.

Sure, shiny, smooth, buffed nails look professional, but I missed fun summer colored fingertips to brighten up the day. After a little research I came up with a handful of companies selling just what I needed, non-toxic polish, one brand even claiming to be as natural as mud. I’ll take that!

Next time I buy polish, I’ll definitely be sporting non-toxic nails. Some of these brands have been around for awhile, so I’m not at all concerned about chipping polish or needing to repaint every few days. To be honest, it’s really not my style to fret about a mani anyhow.

It’s scary to think of what poisonous chemicals could be entering my body one way or another from something that I’d overlooked my entire life. My household is going 100% chem-free in the nails department. You’d better believe my little girl’s toes will only be painted with a colorful bottle from one of these lines.

Scotch Naturals  $14.99

Priti NYC $13.50

Hopscotch Kids Water Colors

Hopscotch Kids $8 Chuckleworthy byline on the site: “Add a little elegance to her nose picking.”

Aquarella  $16

NailsandNoms (Blogger 2.0)

Rescue Beauty Lounge $20

Piggy Polish $9

Sea-quin

Piggy Paint $8.99

Browse around, pick up a bottle, and see for yourself!

Have you tried non-toxic polish? What did you think of it? Please share in the comments!

I LOVE this post. I have not transitioned to green nailpolish yet but plan to. That is pretty much all that is left until I am completely GREEN.

Thanks for the list of where to start!

Non-toxic polish is one of the most difficult items to source, for sure! Thanks for these recommendations – I’ll definitely check them out. 🙂

There’s a new line for girls available too that I absolutely love: http://www.earthprincess.ca/ Lovely pastels and non-toxic nail polish remover too.

Ooh! Kresha, I’ll definitely have to check out that new line. I’m actually getting ready to buy a few bottles since my family’s heading to the states soon- cuts down on international shipping costs! Thanks so much for adding more helpful information to this post. I really appreciate it.
