Simple Peppermint Mocha

January 20, 2014 By Jelli 24 Comments

Starbucks pulls peppermint mochas from their menu way before most of us are ready to say goodbye. I say adios to my pocket change every time I step in their door. For both of these reasons, I came up with a quick and delicious solution- a three-ingredient simple peppermint mocha.

Simple Peppermint Mocha- Three ingredients to a coffee house specialty at home! #coffee | Jellibean JournalsThis peppermint mocha has all the robust flavor of our beloved Starbucks seasonal special without the line, wait, and especially without that hefty pricetag. Let’s get to brewing!

Now that we’ve got our drinks in hand, what is your favorite treat to accompany a peppermint mocha? I usually go for breakfast treats, like carrot muffins or croissants. If I’m especially in the mood for sweets, these chocolate pastries always satisfy my craving. How about you? Do you pair specialty coffees with sweet or savory accompaniments?

Pretty Dayspring MugMugs. Tell me you’ve got a fave.  I’m cheeriest sipping my lattes in Christmas mugs year-round. Pretty mugs like this one from Dayspring also catch my eye and are a fab prop for food photography, if you’re into that sort of thing. What is your favorite mug? Share below in the comments!

Nothing hits the spot like a peppermint mocha on a cold day. As a certified coffee lover, peppermint has become one of my favorite flavors since the weather turned cold. Saying hi from our SITS Girls tribe! Looking forward to getting to know you.

heheh, I just splurged on a new mug at Pequeño Mundo, a whole 500 colones! It’s brown and has a simple line design…you know me, earth tones and simple is how I roll 🙂

I have this mug that says “The Greatest Gift is Being a Mommy.” I use it every morning to drink my green tea and honey – I’m obsessed with it! It feels sacrilegious to use anything other than that mug. Love this recipe 🙂

Thanks, Jen! Sounds like a great mug choice to me. Last year for Mother’s Day my husband got a mug printed with a photo of him and my daughter. I just found it in the pantry again after a few months. I love that one! So special to see their smiling faces in the morning.

I’m excited to try this out for myself but mad at you for telling me about it with 13 days left in my no processed foods challenge. Now it’s going to be much harder having to wait!
Also, even though the peppermint mocha is off the menu, they can still make them. They carry the peppermint all year long. At least they did in the Vegas stores. But even though I know that, I only buy them at Christmas. Weird, I know.

I so wish this was the case here in Costa Rica. I once asked to buy a bottle of the syrup and got the most awful look from the cashier. Unfortunately, most of the seasonal flavors don’t exist here- they bring out other things that aren’t even near as droolworthy as the US stores.

Yum, having this in the morning, I just bought some discounted peppermint chocolates at Mas x menos (Christmas leftovers) lol, and my fav mug is the one my daughter gave me for Mother’s day a while back with a pic of her and writing all over that says I love you and Te amo, oh and a picture drawing she made printed on it

What a thoughtful gift! Be sure to let me know how you like the mocha- I’m a big fan so it’s a good thing I’m out of chocolate mints for now 🙂 Thank you so much for visiting today, Tracy. Haven’t seen you for awhile. The cry room mamas miss you 🙂

I LOVE the Peppermint Mocha and I have to be careful with all of the sugar, even when its a skinny one. This way I will have more control of it. I can’t wait to try this and yes, I need a new cool mug because mine are all boring!

Yum! The white peppermint mocha is the one time of the year I’ll treat myself to Starbucks. I have lotsa favorite mugs. I’m a bit of a hoarder, erm, collector.

Jennifer, I didn’t even know the white peppermint mocha existed. They only brought out the cranberry and peppermint mochas for us this year. Starbucks is only in its 2nd year here in Costa Rica, so I’ll be hopeful that next Christmas we get more seasonal flavors. Glad to meet you and hope to see you around again soon!

Thanks, Jocelyn! If I hadn’t run out of those delicious chocolates I’d definitely be pouring myself a peppermint mocha on this chilly morning. Granted, “chilly” is definitely a relative term 😉 Hope you have a beautiful weekend. Take care.

If you like coffee and chocolate mints, you can’t go wrong. You can change up the number of chocolates and make it super intense or not so much. Hope you give it a try, Tiffany!

Looks yum. And yes, easy!! I have been using a peppermint mocha creamer, but your idea is probably richer tasting.

Jelli, I love this simple drink recipe! I am so bad about stopping at Starbucks in the morning on the way to work…or in the afternoon. Or whenever! I actually went there 3 times last weekend but we were out of town so that’s a good excuse, right???

And you are right, Starbucks gets rid of their seasonal drinks way too early! Pinning this. Have a lovely weekend!

Happy to help, Emily. It’s really tasty. If you want to really up the glam factor like Starbucks you could always add whipped cream and a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Mmm! Hope you love the recipe.

Thank you for pinning, Jen. I love making specialty coffees at home too. It is definitely cheaper and I can’t get to a café too easily with two tiny kids either. Thank you so much for visiting my little ‘ol netspace today. I hope to see you again soon!
