Have you tried coconut butter yet? If not, get yo’self to the supermarket ASAP and pick up a pound of dried shredded coconut. Your taste buds won’t even know what hit them!!
What does coconut butter taste like?
It’s creamy, slightly sweet, nutty, thick and spreadable-perfect on toast! It’s the Paleo solution to Nutella, rivaled only by my other current fave, homemade almond butter.
Making homemade coconut butter is fast!
Just pour dried coconut into a food processor, blitz 2-3 minutes, and come back to find smooth, lush, spreadable creamy coconut butter awaiting you! You can sweeten it if you’d like by adding in a tablespoon or two of maple syrup. Grab a spoon and dig in!
- 5 cups dried, shredded coconut, unsweetened
- optional spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, cocoa powder, lemon zest)
- Add coconut to a food processor and process until smooth. Using a spatula, scrape down the bowl as necessary to ensure even blending. If you'd like to flavor the butter, add half a teaspoon of your favorite spices.
So easy and so delicious, I almost feel cheated that I never heard of this healthy palate pleaser until this month.

I’ll have to try this since I’m allergic to nuts and haven’t had any other kinds of butter besides actual butter!

I’ve never used coconut butter before, I’ve only used regular butter. I had no idea that there was even such a product available. I am glad you described what it tastes like. I might actually give it a try. Glad you shared all the ideas you can use coconut butter in. Looking forward to trying it out

Oh, yum! I’ve never thought about making homemade coconut butter and certainly didn’t realize how simple it was. This is something I’m definitely going to try. Coconut butter is one of my favorites. However, it’s super expensive to purchase. This will be a wonderful alternative.

Coconut butter seems absolutely brilliant! I’m a huge lover of coconut oil. I will definitely look into getting/making coconut butter – especially for those “candy” bars. Such a beautiful red and white marble pattern it creates!

I’m with you, Lisa. Before I tried making coconut butter I assumed it was similar to coconut oil. It is WAY better! So flavorful, and the texture is incredible. Be careful, Lisa. It is soooo addictive!

How fun is this?! I’ve been buying coconut butter for years, and it’s never occurred to me that I could (or sould) make my own. I love all of the different ways you included to use it. On the top of my list is sauteéd apples and pears and drizzle with coconut butter (for him) and crepes with coconut butter and fresh fruit (for her) x

Tina, you’re gonna love coconut butter! One of the best things about it is how stinking easy it is to make. No cooking, no whipping, just pour, press “on” and voila!
