My Birth Playlist

July 15, 2013 By Jelli 10 Comments

When Summer Elizabeth was born, I had a playlist ready to go, stereo loaded. We used only one of those CDs before my midwife arrived and determined the music not “soothing” enough. The rest of the birth went on under the approved calming harp melodies that the doula had in her handbag. Not my cup of tea, but when you’re in pain and focused on getting that child expelled, you don’t fuss about background music. No more pink music

This time, with no midwife at my side, my playlist is going to shine! From dancy tunes to help me keep up my energy to slower reverent worship tunes to help me focus on the One who is holding my hand throughout the entire experience, this music is mine.

Here’s what’s playing on my birth playlist:

Adoration: The Worship Album

Carried Me: The Worship Project

City on a Hill: Songs of Worship and Praise

Hungry (Falling on my Knees)

Love, Liberty, Disco

How did you prepare for your child’s birth? What personal touch made it an extra special experience for you? Share in the comments!

I wasn’t as prepared as you… heck.. I wasn’t prepared full stop! Three of my four were premmie. With Miss K, who decided to arrive seven weeks early, I was madly packing my bag between contractions lol. Thinking of you and the exciting days/weeks ahead Jelli! xo P

Thanks so much, Pauline! I can’t even imagine trying to pack between contractions. Maybe the focus on packing would help me get through them better. Distraction is sometimes very good during labor.

I stopped by after seeing your link on Fellowship Fridays. I’m pregnant with #3 and have never had a play list! This inspires me to do things differently this next time. Best of luck to you!

Kimberly, thanks for taking the time to pop over. I like to be ultra organized and ready to make baby’s birthday as seamless and humanly possible, so making my playlist was just another item on my checklist 😉 Glad to meet you today and hope that your pregnancy goes great! God bless you and your family.

I love this. My husband did mine. Not sure I paid that much attention though 🙂

I linked here from Fellowship Fridays and thought you might want to link this post at the linkup I host called Essential Fridays.

Mel, it’s great to meet you here today. Isn’t Fellowship Fri. a great way to make friends? Thank you so much for the invite to your linkup. I must say, we’ll see how effective the playlist really is and if I do notice it or not once labor really kicks in. Nevertheless, it’s comforting to know I’ve got it prepped and ready.

Love the list sweet friend. Beyond excited for your sweet prince to be born. Sorry for the delay in response. Just getting used to momma of a big crew …

Right now, the best books on my shelf for parenting are

    Good and Angry by Turansky
The 5 Love Languages of Children
    If Jesus Were A Parent

But straight up the best advice I have found is in the Bible. Speaking God’s promises over my kids. Believing them. And watching them unfold.

    Hugs,
    Sarah
