Planning family travel can be hectic. Packing bags, filling the gas tank, and updating passports keep you busy. The last thing you need to worry about is your family’s safety.
If you’ve got small children, let me share a tip for safe travels with tots.
Pack electrical outlet plugs.
Hotel rooms and vacation homes don’t generally boast child safety plugs. If your little ones are curious like most, invest five dollars in a package of outlet plugs and take them with you or simply pop out a few pairs from around your home. Just be sure to remember to bring them back.
If you forget to pack plugs, like I did recently, just use a piece of tape. Masking tape is preferable, but anything works. In fact, last time we took a trip I used medical tape from a first aid kit I found in our friend’s beach house.

Yes! In fact, I just keep ’em in my suitcase all the time, in a little ziplock bag.
If you’re going on a trip and you know your mornings will be hectic, you might find it helpful to pack all of your kids’ clothes in large ziplock bags with the days labeled. When we went to Disney World last January, I had a bag with all 3 of my kids’ clothes for Monday, one for Tuesday, etc.

Great idea! I’m a minimalist packer, so might not have an outfit for every day, but you know what, that’s still a fabulous idea. Another one I saw is to take photos of the ways you can mix and match the items you pack and then label the pics for each day. That way you’ve got fewer items in your suitcase and more room to take home momentos! Thanks so much for stopping by with the mama wisdom, Gabby!
