Tropical Green Smoothie Recipes

January 3, 2014 By Jelli 11 Comments

I only recently jumped on the green smoothie bandwagon and was deliciously surprised. The abundance of tropical fruits here in Costa Rica lend lots of flavor options for tropical green smoothie recipes.

I’ve always chowed down on fruits and vegetables, but childhood V8 Juice-related traumas meant that until recently, veggies weren’t invited to the elite fruits-only smoothie party. If you’re a newbie like me, your taste buds won’t know what hit them and the mega vitamin surge you’re delivering will majorly boost your immune system!

Green Smoothie Recipes for the whole Family! | JellibeanJournals.comI drink green smoothies for breakfast or as a snack. They are quick and healthy way to satisfy your appetite until the next mealtime. My toddler is on board too. She eagerly gulps down her portion and obnoxiously pleads for re-fills. We’re still working on the table manners. Here are the tropical green smoothies currently in rotation at my household this month. Grab your blender and drink to your health!

First of all, that picture is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Second, those recipes sound great! I want to hop on the green smoothie bandwagon too, but I have a hard time dragging my blender out – I really want a bullet or something similar and then the smoothie making will never stop! I’d love to invite you to share this at Tips and Tricks Tuesday, which goes live Monday nights. We gather to share healthy living advice and week support – this would be great! Thanks!

Thanks for the invite, Kristin. Have you tried smoothie making in your blender? You might be surprised at how well it chops veggies without even needing to buy a specialized blender. Mine is a smoothie maker (circa 2003) but basically it’s a plain ordinary blender with a pour spout and it chops with the best of ’em. Hope you find time to add a little green to your meals!

We love smoothies in our house. I’ll have to check out the book. BTW: I usually read your blog on my phone so haven’t “seen” the site for a while but I love, love. the redesign. So clean and simple. Perfect!

Yen, I’m using Quaker quick oats, simply because they’re the cheapest I can buy here. In Latin America people like finely ground oats that they mix in water and/or milk along with sugar and drink. I can’t stomach that, and I have to buy imported oats in bulk to save cash. I’d guess that any type of oats, even steel-cut would work just fine. Thanks for visiting back!

Kimberlee, that sounds like a fantastic January challenge to me. My toddler and I have had green smoothies nearly every day for the past couple of weeks, and since I generally just toss fruits and veggies into the blender, the flavors have been hit or miss. These 3 recipes were winners, and I’m hoping to come up with even more tasty smoothies soon. Thanks for stopping by!

I need to get back to back smoothies regularly. Especially for the girls, to sneak a few extra veggies in there 😉

Thanks of co-hosting. I’m thrilled about the great turn out!
